Coffee and Unscented Soap

Our goat milk soap is the purest soap available. It is made with saponified organic olive oil, organic coconut oil, organic palm oil, and organic cocoa butter, as well as milk from our herd of Nigerian dwarf dairy goats. We use only sustainably grown palm oil, which means it does not come from land that was deforested. Unlike commercial dairies that take babies away from their mothers at birth, our does raise their babies themselves, and when the babies are two months old and eating lots of solid foods but starting to lose interest in nursing, the does start sharing their milk with us. We use only essential oils for fragrance.

If you are sensitive to fragrances, we suggest that you start with a single essential oil — or even the unscented soap. Because head soap maker Deborah started making soap due to her own allergies, we label our soaps with exactly what they contain, so if it says “lavender essential oil,” that’s it for fragrance. We don’t add any colors to our soap, so all colors are naturally occurring based upon the ingredients in the soap.

FAQ

Does your soap contain lye?

No, the soap does not contain lye, but we do use lye to make the soap. You cannot make soap without lye. If someone tells you that they make soap without lye, they are not really making soap. They are simply melting soap that someone else made with lye and then pouring it into molds. When you see “sodium cocoate” on a label, it means the coconut oil was saponified with sodium hydroxide. Sodium palmate is saponified palm oil, and so on. Our finished soap does not contain lye, however, because the soap is superfatted, which means we put more oil in it than the lye can saponify. Our recipes generally call for about 6% excess oil, which is why our soap is so great for dry and sensitive skin. It’s like washing your hands and using lotion at the same time, but even better because your hands won’t feel oily or greasy afterwards.
